Cirque du Soleil’s – LUZIA – U.S. Premiere

If you’re looking for something magical go no further than Cirque du Soleil’s 17th show presented under the Big Top, LUZIA. It’s its 38th original production since 1984, they have performed in more than 400 cities on six continents. The massive white-and-gold Big Top can be seen from the highway at San Francisco’s AT&T park. You’ll not only be taken to another world but you’ll be experiencing it first, the Bay Area is its U.S premiere.

La Cage Aux Folles presented by BAY AREA MUSICALS!

The newly formed theatre organization, BAY AREA MUSICALS! is closing its inaugural season with multiple Tony Award winning play, La Cage Aux Folles. The show written by Harvey Fierstein (book) and Jerry Herman (music and lyrics) revolves around Georges (Clay David), the owner of Saint-Tropez drag cabaret “La Cage aux Folles”, his lover Albin (Michael RJ Campbell) who is also the clubs headliner as Zaza, and his son Jean-Michel (Jack O’Reilly) who’s recently announced his engagement to Anne Dindon (Bessie Zolno), daughter of hypocrite politician Edouard Dindon (Cameron Weston).

CARNAVAL San Francisco

Carnaval San Francisco has been occurring on Memorial Day Weekend for 38 years. It celebrates the diverse Latin American and Caribbean roots that use to make up the Mission District. The diminishing population of Latinos lost to luxury condominiums, “hipster” stores and rising rent prices didn’t limit the representation of what once was. The parade included music, dance, and artistic expression that had attendees dancing, smiling, and taking photos to memorialize their experience. A pride could be felt in the air that told you, a part of us will always be here.

In Memory of Prince – The World Turns Purple

Icon singer/musician/producer/writer/genius Prince Rogers Nelson was pronounced dead at 10:07 am today, he was only 57 years old . He was found in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The cause of death is still unknown. Many honored him by lighting up in purple in reference to his most iconic album, Purple Rain. President Barack Obama posted a message on Facebook summarizing Prince’s genius.

Bridge 2 Bridge Cruise – San Francisco

A great way to learn about San Franciso history is by taking one of the short day cruises offered on the bay. The Bridge-to-Bridge tour operated by Red And White Fleet was not only educational but also romantic. It goes from the Golden Gate Bridge at the edge of the Pacific Ocean all the way to the Bay Bridge in the heart of San Francisco’s financial district and last 90 minutes.

Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective

It’s been a long wait for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and its finally here, the world premiere of Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective presented at the de Young Museum. It’s the first exhibit of its kind celebrating the life and career of the Dominican fashion designer, and took about a year to come to fruition. He is one of fashion’s most influential designers and has dressed many prominent figures since becoming internationally known in the late 1960’s.

BAM! presents HAIR

BAM! (Bay Area Musicals), the newest non-profit theatrical organization in the San Francisco Bay Area is presenting their 2nd show, Hair now playing at the Victoria Theatre until March 19th. A classic choice that exemplifies the diversity in our society, one that many theatre’s so desperately lack.

The Golden Gate Kennel Club held their dog show over the weekend at Cow Palace. The two days were full of activities including a fashion show, flyball racing, vendors, meet & greets and of course the main show.

Jersey Boys at SHN Orpheum Theatre

The “Jersey Boys” are back in San Francisco at SHN Orpheum Theatre until February 14, 2016. The Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical tells the story of Frankie Valli as a soloist and as part of The Four Seasons with Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. The audience gets a glimpse into the background of how they became a group that went on to sell 175 million records worldwide before they were thirty to being inducted into the hall of fame in 1990.
