Pope Francis U.S. Visit & Schedule

Pope Francis arrived today at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland and was greeted by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and their families. It’s rare for a President to go out and greet important guests upon landing. They’re usually met with at the White House. However, the 266th Pope is no stranger to first as he is the first Latin American to lead the Roman Catholic Church and will also be the first Pope to address Congress on Thursday.

The fourth Pope to visit the United States is scheduled to visit Washington, New York and Philadelphia from September 22-27, 2015. He’s been a critic of the excesses of capitalism because of its effects on the environment and pushing people into deep poverty. Conservative “Catholics” disagree with his concerns and have rejected his requests for urgent action against global warming. He’s expected to discuss issues on immigration, prisons, poverty and the environment. He will also be visiting with immigrants, prisoners and the homeless.
