The Golden Gate Kennel Club Dog Show
The Golden Gate Kennel Club held their dog show over the weekend at Cow Palace. The two days were full of activities including a fashion show, flyball racing, vendors, meet & greets and of course the main show.
Monarch Butterflies at Ardenwood Historic Farm
Several people waited online outside Ardenwood Historic Farm (Fremont) on New Year’s Day to view the monarch butterflies that migrate there in search of warmth. They travel hundreds of miles from the western U.S. and Canada to escape temperatures that can hit below freezing. There’s been a great decline in their population as many as 25,000 were counted in 1997 compared to about 1,600 at the farm this year.
Conservatory of Flowers – Garden Railway: 1915 Pan-Pacific Exhibition
The Conservatory of Flowers opened in 1879 making it one of the oldest buildings in Golden Gate Park today. It’s also one of the oldest public wood-and-glass conservatories in North America. Don’t miss their special exhibition “Garden Railway: 1915 Pan-Pacific” ending April 10, 2016.
Rituals + Remembrance at OMCA
The Oakland Museum of California explores this tradition and how other cultures honor their deceased in their exhibit, “Rituals + Remembrance”. The work represents elements of Buddhist, African American, Filipino, Hawaiian, Japanese, Chicano, and Latino rituals.
Treasure Island – Toxic Getaway
When driving between Oakland and San Francisco you’ll see an exit midway that goes towards Treasure Island. It was a Navy base from 1942 to 1997. You will find beautiful views of the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge there. You will also find abandoned buildings and toxic asbestos warnings everywhere.
Fight For $15 Supporters Come Out in Oakland
Workers in over 200 cities came out today to demand livable wages. The majority of low wageworkers are adults trying to make ends meet. It’s no longer a “transitioning teen” job into the workforce. In addition, women hold the majority of low earning jobs. The demographic the wages hurt in Oakland were apparent, families.
Art San Diego 2015
The highly anticipated spectrum art show event in Balboa Park’s Activity Center, Art San Diego, takes place from November 5-8, 2015 and showcases art from over 500 artists, exhibitions, art labs and galleries.
Janelle Monae, Jidenna, and Wondaland Lead March Down Mission Street
Several hundred people showed up in solidarity at Mission & 24th Street BART plaza in San Francisco to call out mass incarceration and police terror on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Families who’ve lost loved ones to police brutality and abuse of power were present to speak about the injustices that occurred, and the pain they experience from their loss.
