Mama’s Day 2016
On the Friday evening before Mother’s Day, the Mama’s Day 2016 event kicked off its’ 26th year at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, the fundraising fete is the season’s must-attend culinary event of the year. The occasion featured over 55 chefs from some of San Diego’s most premium restaurants, hotels, and catering companies, those such as The Marine Room, Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa, Waypoint Public and more. The extraordinary chefs prepared delicious samples for over 600 attendees.
The Man Who Knew Infinity – Film Review
The film, The Man Who Knew Infinity, is a mathematical experience of the cinematic kind. The first to be written (screenplay), directed and produced by Matt Brown, it mingles math with something much more relatable; real life. Giving viewers a glimpse into the struggles and discoveries of math genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, it’s based on author Robert Kanigel’s 1991 biography of the same title.

CubaCaribe Festival 2016
The 12th Annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance and Music ends on Saturday April 30th. This year’s festival CUBA ON MY MIND pays tribute to Cuba’s rich artistic and cultural traditions and their influence around the globe. It’s the only festival in the Bay Area devoted to folkloric and contemporary dance and music of the Afro-Caribbean and its Diaspora. It’s founder, Ramón Ramos Alayo is a Cuban-born dancer, teacher, and choreographer who was selected by the Cuban government to study dance in Santiago de Cuba at age eleven. Each year, the festival presents more than 100 artists in 12 performances plus exhibitions, master classes and lectures on the religion, history and politics of the Caribbean.

The Greatest Monkey Show on Earth
The Greatest Monkey Show on Earth presented by Antic in a Drain (as Artist in Residence at Kinetic Arts Center) will make you laugh at times and really uncomfortable the rest. Maitresse Magnificent (Amelia Van Brunt) introduces the audience to Charles the Chimp (Ross Travis). He’s a good little monkey that’s expected to perform on cue for treats. If he’s not on point he’s stunned via a shock collar.
The Birth of a Nation – Official HD Trailer Released
The Birth of a Nation will be released in theaters on October 7, 2016. The highly anticipated film created enormous buzz at Sundance winning the Grand Jury Prize for Drama and Audience Award for U.S. Drama. The film is set against the antebellum South and follows the character Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves.
