Treasure Island – Toxic Getaway

When driving between Oakland and San Francisco you’ll see an exit midway that goes towards Treasure Island. It was a Navy base from 1942 to 1997. You will find beautiful views of the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge there. You will also find abandoned buildings and toxic asbestos warnings everywhere.

Fight For $15 Supporters Come Out in Oakland

Workers in over 200 cities came out today to demand livable wages. The majority of low wageworkers are adults trying to make ends meet. It’s no longer a “transitioning teen” job into the workforce. In addition, women hold the majority of low earning jobs. The demographic the wages hurt in Oakland were apparent, families.

Dia De Los Muertos San Francisco

Hundreds of people came out on Monday, November 2 to participate in the annual Dia De Los Muertos festival on Mission Street. There were Altars organized by the Marigold Project set up in Garfield Park prior to the parade. The Altars varied from deeply personal, to school projects, to political ones dedicated to those that have been evicted due to gentrification.

The Uber Kittens Are Coming!

Janelle Monae, Jidenna, and Wondaland Lead March Down Mission Street

Several hundred people showed up in solidarity at Mission & 24th Street BART plaza in San Francisco to call out mass incarceration and police terror on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Families who’ve lost loved ones to police brutality and abuse of power were present to speak about the injustices that occurred, and the pain they experience from their loss.

NYC Parade for Women’s World Cup Champions

New York City will hold a ticker-tape parade to celebrate the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team’s World Cup victory on Friday starting at 11 a.m. The parade will start in Battery Park; go along Broadway and end at City Hall Park. This route is also known as the Canyon of Heroes.

Creative Block

Creative Block group show is back. The show mashes the ideas of a white walls gallery show with the raw outdoor urban feel of SILO in Makers Quarter. Situated on well-lit white walls, the huge group show featured fine art and photography from 50 participating artists with live murals from Honkey Kong, Mike Maxwell, Nekoes, CatGods, and Mr Dvice.

North Park Residents and Qualcomm Volunteers Take Back the Alley

Media Arts Center San Diego’s (MACSD) initiative, Take Back the Alley, kicked off on May 14 in North Park with nearly 50 community members and Qualcomm volunteers. Take Back the Alley started in 2011 and aims to help redefine and transform alleys into safer and friendlier areas of congregation. Community members and volunteers painted fences and light posts with bright and inviting colors, cleaned up brush and gardened.

Kickoff to Summer Celebration

“Kickoff Summer” is a  full day of family friendly activities at the County of San Diego Waterfront Park included live music and entertainment, special Mother’s Day crafts, sweet treats, interactive games, bounce house fun, a photo booth to capture a memorable moment with mom, and food trucks.
