New York City will hold a ticker-tape parade to celebrate the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team’s World Cup victory on Friday starting at 11 a.m. The parade will start in Battery Park; go along Broadway and end at City Hall Park. This route is also known as the Canyon of Heroes.
The U.S. team defeated Japan 5-2 on July 5, 2015. This is their third World Cup win and first parade. A female team has never been honored this way before.
All are invited to celebrate along the parade route. Those who want a chance to attend the ceremony at the conclusion of the parade at City Hall can go to nyc.gov/parade or call 311 on Wednesday between 2 to 4 p.m. to reserve a spot.

Trivia Tidbit: The name “ticker-tape parade” started because of the ticker- tape that people would throw from nearby buildings. Although the name stuck the material thrown now is actually paper confetti.
