Instant Articles allows web publishers to create interactive pieces which are hosted on Facebook’s servers and embedded in news feeds. News articles takes an average of 8 seconds to load.
Instant Articles load as much as 10 times faster, will provide users with high quality, fluid experience, and native app experience.
Users can zoom into photos, watch videos play as they scroll through, find where the story happened by exploring interactive maps, hear the author’s voice through the embedded audio captions, and like and comment on individual parts of the article, inline.
According to Facebook, publishers can serve their own ads and keep that revenue, track readership in real-time and with comScore, and customize the presentation of articles to match their brand. Launch partners include The New York Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, NBC News, The Atlantic, The Guardian, BBC News, Spiegel Online, and Bild.
Currently, Instant Articles are only available to people who use Facebook’s iPhone app.
